Just 55km south-west of Melbourne the You Yangs are an ideal location for day trips. The Kurrajong Plantation is mostly flat with gentle single trail winding through trees with few obstacles, suitable for beginners. The Stockyards is very steep and rocky with awesome views and awesome tracks. Great for downhill and all mountain with fast tracks, big berms, big jumps and big rocks. Shuttle days for downhill riding are run regularly.
160km south-west of Melbourne Forrest is excellent for a weekend trip with riding straight from the camp site. Has excellent cross country and all mountain riding ranging from beginner to intermediate.
100km east of Melbourne close by to Baw Baw, Rokeby provides some good cross country riding on mostly wider trails with limited obstacles. Some good climbs and descents. Suits beginner riders.
Mount Baw Baw
120km east of Melbourne Baw Baw is great for day trips. The downhill course is a 300m descent and is one of the best in the country. Very fast track with massive jumps and obstacles, although some can be bypassed. Shuttles are available most weekends. Suits intermediate and advanced downhill riders.
Just 44km east of Melbourne Lysterfield is an ideal location for night trips. The Lake Circuit is a wide flat track suitable for complete novices. The main loop is a great single trail cross country track with good climbs and flowing descents suitable for beginners and good for a mid-week night ride. Lysterfield is also home to the Commonwealth Games cross country track which features steep climbs and some good technical features, suits intermediate riders and also good for a mid-week night ride. There are also two downhill tracks.
