About
The RMIT Outdoors Club (ROC) is an amazing club based in Melbourne, Australia that hosts a range of exciting and exhilarating outdoor activities. ROC is one of the largest and most active university clubs in Melbourne, with each weekend packed full of great trips. The club is run entirely by volunteers, each of whom has a passion for the outdoors and strives to keep the trip calendar bursting with fun events.
However, we are NOT a tour company. If what you are after is a fully-paid and serviced tour, where you are pampered and taken care of along with the thrills of certain adventure activities, then perhaps you should consider searching for such adventure/tour companies across Melbourne and Australia. We are not that. We are a club, of like-minded people, of volunteers, of people who love and appreciate the great outdoors across the world and would like to share it with other like-minded people. |
ROC offers many activities including Bushwalking, Rock Climbing, Cross Country Skiing, Mountain Biking, Caving/Speleology, Kayaking, Rafting, Orienteering, Rogaining, Mountaineering, Surfing, Snorkelling and Free Diving! We also have regular social events to relax and enjoy time with your fellow ROC mates. There are trips running basically every weekend of the year! This includes not only day trips, but many that are 2-4 days long and some Mega-trips lasting 10 days or more! These long trips for the keen and adventurous, are usually run over the summer break. Check out our calendar to find out what trips are coming up.
We also have a huge range of equipment available for hire by our club members. Basically anything you need for any of our activities can be hired from the club gear room. Most hire gear is also available for personal trips provided itโs not required at the time by a club trip.
Our large member base is balanced between beginners and those experienced members who have been there and done that! We also attract a number of exchange students from all over the world, who inject plenty of spice into the club. You DON’T have to be an RMIT student to join, nor do you need ANY prior experience in any of our activities – all you need is some enthusiasm for the outdoors!
Come and join ROC today!
History
The Outdoors Club was formed in 1993 as a result of the amalgamation of the existing bushwalking and rock-climbing clubs. In 1999 it was disunited back into the two clubs!
In 2002 we re-joined as one club again, changed our name to the RMIT Outdoors Club and now we’re better than ever!
